iMovie quits when adding music from iTunes library

Using iMovie 9.0.9 on 17-inch MacBook Pro, OS X 10.9.5

I have been using iMovie 9.0.9 for several years, however since a few days the program unexpectedly quits when dragging a music file into a project. It seems that the problem started on the same day the iTunes 12.5.1 update was installed. Am I the only one experiencing this issue? Any suggestions how to solve it?

MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

No problems here with iTunes 12.51 and iMovie 9.0.9. I am on El Capitan not Mavericks however. Don't see why that would make any difference though. Try deleting iMovie preferences.
